"Maybe"

Someone said he made the word sound so cool.

Satonaka Halu, captain of the Blue Scorpions Hockey Team in Japan, where hockey is not a popular sport, where a player as good as he is is not a celebrity. But still, he's one drop-dead gorgeous guy. And the first thing you would hear from him is "Women are like flowers. Flowers only care about the weather, because I am their sun" as he intimidates his opponents right before the match. Then you hear the American Band playing in the background, Queen. I got the feeling this might be a looooong night.
Halu is first portrayed as a player (excuse the pun) who doesn't hide from anyone that he treats love as a game, no strings attached. After the match the team head to their favorite bar for a victory party where they take their picks of new girls to hit on. Halu notices a girl nobody else does, "She's someone from the last century, like in a film of black and white". Halu has no difficulty in catching the girl's attention and gets her number even when she showed no interest in hockey and was ready to leave. It was Aki's first time to see a game.

Aki had no interest in meeting anybody new. Before meeting Halu she kept to herself, because she was involved with someone else. She could not really say boyfriend anymore. They hadn't had any contact for two years. Learning this, Halu proposes that they play a game and not be serious about being a couple. If ever Aki's "boyfriend" would return, it would be game over. The plot might be obvious here where you'd think they'd fall for it even when they tell themselves not to. Predictable, yes. There are stories that what keeps you glued is the details. Right enough for this one, where the main characters are all about details.
I'm talking about Pride. A Japanese drama released in 2004, starring Kimura Takuya as Satonaka Halu. Captivating. Has this cute-awkward-shy smile that I later find out is his trademark smirk. Mind-blowing Gorgeousness. Superb acting. Okay, enough.
The story might be cliche but like I said, it's all about the details. When you hear lines like
"I've never been lonely", or
"Only people who really challenge their limits to reach number one, can truly respect those who are number one", and
"You are Aki (Autumn), like the nice feeling I get when I watch the leaves turn bright red", or
"You win and I lose, because you know love and I don't."
,
Or when you hear the captain's cheers before the match and they do the huddle thing that makes them look so cool...
Feminists, shut up. This is one helluva testosterone overload, but Aki is as Halu tells her, special.
I won't tell you everything. Watch it- feel good. Take my word for it.
Baboysai watches Pride over and over again.
THE END. Baboysai is giddy over Kimura Takuya!
